Call Mr Robeson, a one-man show that has been seen in New York and London, is on for one night only tonight at Ilkley’s Playhouse Theatre.
It highlights how singer and actor Paul Robeson’s radical activism caused his downfall and features some famous songs.
Written and performed by Liverpool-based playwright and singer Tayo Aluko (pictured) with piano accompaniment, Call Mr Robeson was chosen by The Guardian’s theatre critic Michael Billington as his top pick for things to see in London in January 2011.
Aluko said: “Paul Robeson undeservedly got very bad press in his time, but it is clear from the reactions I have received to this play all over the world that people are very interested in stories like his today.”
The 80-minute show, which starts at 7.30pm, has no interval.
The box office number is (01943) 609539.
