The diesel gala will also mark the opening of Oxenhope Station’s much improved toilet block (right).
The previous Victorian facilities, described as “Spartan” by volunteers, were open air, and led to complaints by visitors.
Earlier this year the railway demolished the existing toilets, re-using the bricks to build new ones, including disabled facilities for the first time. The project was paid for entirely from the railway’s own funds.
Mike Tarran, station clerk of works, said: “We have managed to keep the changes in keeping. The building just needs a bit of weathering now. We had a lot of complaints about the old toilets - it was very frustrating. They just didn’t meet the demands of the modern day.”
