A former pub could be bulldozed to make way for a supermarket.
Farmfoods has applied for planning permission to knock down the Roebuck pub, in Harrogate Road, Greengates, and build a shop on the site.
A planning statement from Farmfoods Ltd said: “Successful pubs are now either drinks-dominated in locations with heavy footfall – so-called wet-led pubs, or family and food orientated pubs. The Roebuck site is not suitable for a family and food pub nor does it have a large enough footfall to make it a successful wet-led pub.
“Sadly, despite extensive marketing the pub has no viable future and has been vacant for some time. The Roebuck is from a different age and pubs of this type are no longer attractive business opportunities.” People can make comments on the application by e-mailing planning.applications@bradford.gov.uk or writing to the Planning Service, Jacobs Well, Bradford, BD1 5RW, quoting application number 13/01365/FUL, by May 10.
