Doorstep sellers and rogue traders will soon be getting the cold shoulder in Bingley.
Shipley Area Committee has funded a Cold Calling Control Zone set up to protect people living in the Crossflatts area of Bingley.
The zones are set-up by West Yorkshire Trading Standards, neighbourhood watch groups and police in areas where residents have suffered because of doorstep criminals and unsolicited sales people.
Chief officer of West Yorkshire Trading Standards Service Graham Hebblethwaite said “This initiative is a simple yet effective mechanism in the fight against doorstep criminals and cold callers.
“The popularity of the zones continues to thrive throughout West Yorkshire, and the feedback from residents ensures that we can continue to make improvements and develop the zones further.”
Chairman of Shipley Area Committee Councillor David Heseltine added: “A number of criminals pose as doorstep salespeople and bogus utility company officials and the implementation of Cold Calling Control Zones helps to raise awareness over the type of tactics often employed by doorstep criminals and also brings this type of criminal activity to the forefront of people’s minds.
“Working in partnership to inform and advise residents helps to combat this issue in the most effective way.”
