Bradford’s National Media Museum was last night’s glitzy venue for an awards ceremony annoucing the winners of the 19th Bradford International Film Festival’s two film prize competitions.
The Festival’s European Features Competition, for an outstanding fictional feature film currently without UK distribution, was awarded to Kill Me – a French production directed by Emily Atef and starring up-and-coming Romanian actress Maria Dragus who plays the part of a depressed farm-girl whose dreary life changes when she meets an escaped murderer.
The Shine Shorts Competition, designed to honour the best short film by an emerging director, went to Four Hours Barefoot – a Portugese/French co-production directed by Frederico Costa. Inspired by a true story and set in the harsh mountains of northern Portugal, the film follows the journey of a 16-year-old boy who endures 30 kilometres across difficult terrain with no footwear, in a desperate escape after a murder is committed.
Keighley-born screenwriter Simon Beaufoy was one of the speakers at the event.
