A young Bradford woman will complete a fun run inspired by a three-year-old girl she had never met who suffers from a rare genetic disorder.
Lisa Howard, 19, from Wrose, is taking part in the Roundhay Park 5k Fun Run in August in a bid to raise funds to send Grace Whiting to DisneyLand Paris through the Make A Wish Foundation.
Grace, of Eccleshill, was born with Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Deficiency, a life-limiting metabolic condition, which causes her cells to die and affects her sight and hearing.
The condition is so rare it only affects around two people in the UK every year.
Doctors told her mother Layna Harding, and father Andy Whiting, the youngster would not live to see her first birthday – but Grace continues to fight the condition and celebrated her third birthday last December.
Miss Howard said: “Layna got in touch with me through Facebook and told me about Grace. She had seen that I was already planning to do a fun run in aid of Make A Wish Foundation and on hearing her story it touched me.
“Myself and my friend Faye originally planned to do some sort of challenge for charity to get fit for the summer, but now we are even more inspired.”
