A Scout leader who has racked up 30 years of service will be honoured at a ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Roger Hyde, group scout leader at Queensbury, will be presented with the Silver Acorn award at the ceremony tomorrow to mark St George’s Day.
Mr Hyde, 70, joined Scouting at the age of eight and says the organisation is getting better and better.
He said: “Nowadays, the leaders have got to do far, far better training than they used to do.
“They have to study first aid, management, things like this. It’s really excellent.”
Mr Hyde, a retired lecturer, has even penned a book about his years in the Scouts, called ‘Memoirs of a bare-kneed warrior’.
He said while he was honoured to be given the award, the success of Scouting at Queensbury was a team effort.
He said: “I wear it with pride on behalf of our 30 leaders at team Queensbury.”
