A Bradford project which recycles old and unwanted bicycles is holding an open day today to top up its supplies.
Cycle re Cycle will hold the event from 10.30am to 2.30pm at Garden Mills, Westholme Street, off Thornton Road, Bradford.
Research by Mintel found the number of people cycling has grown from 34 per cent in January 2012 to 41 per cent in November 2012.
Volunteers at Cycle re Cycle said this is causing them a “headache” as they are struggling to get enough bikes to recycle.
After the project has recycled the bikes it sells them on at low cost at shops at the University of Bradford and Bradford College.
Chris Evans, of Cycle re Cycle said: “It’s really exciting seeing so many people cycling but it does give us a headache as we can only recycle bicycles that we are given.”
Organisers of the event are asking people to bring along and donate unwanted bicycles and especially women’s bikes.
