A community is “saddened and concerned” after the grim discovery of a body in Bradford yesterday.
The body of a man was found on a footpath leading off Arncliffe Terrace, in Lidget Green, at 7.30am.
It is believed that a member of the public made the discovery and then called police.
A large cordon was set up by officers as an investigation into the circumstances of the death got underway.
Last night, police had yet to release any details or theories as to how he died, although they said a post mortem had been inconclusive as to the cause of death.
Crime Scene Investigators arrived at the scene in the morning and swept the area for any evidence.
A white tent was put up to safeguard evidence in the immediate area of the incident.
A private ambulance also attended the scene.
Earlier in the morning, about one third of Arncliffe Terrace was cordoned off as well as the footpath where the body was found.
This cordon was later reduced to just the footpath.
West Yorkshire Police officers guarded the taped area to make sure members of the public did not walk through the scene.
The footpath runs above rows of terraced houses and is located behind a main road.
Residents living in nearby houses seemed unaware of the incident.
One neighbour, who lives in a flat opposite the footpath, said he was surprised to hear the news.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said he slept with the window open all night and had not heard any noise or seen anything.
A shopkeeper, whose business backs onto the street to where the body was found, said his brother had opened up at about 6am and hadn’t heard or seen anything.
Bradford Councillor Nazam Azam, (Lab) whose ward covers the Lidget Green area, said: “I am not sure what has happened I have heard conflicting stories, but I have had a number of concerned residents who have been in touch with me to see if I know anything.
“I think the police presence in the area has been very good, there have been several police cars and PCSO officers in the neighbourhood which I think is offering the residents some reassurance.
“The area is normally very quiet it is at the rear of Legrams Lane. There are shops to the front of the row of houses. This is out of the ordinary.
“It is very sad and my thoughts go out to the family.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact police on the non-emergency number 101.
