A plaque has been removed from a war memorial so engravers can add the name of fallen soldier Gareth Thursby Sgt Thursby, a former student at South Craven School, Cross Hills, near Keighley, was shot dead by a rogue Afghanistan police officer in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand Province in September.
The plaque at Skipton’s war memorial already commemorates the life of Royal Marine Captain Philip Guy, who died on March 21, 2003, in a helicopter crash during the Iraq War.
The plaque was removed on Wednesday.
