A Bradford garden centre is nurturing the green-fingered enthusiasts of the future.

ACW in Canal Road handed over three growing starter packs, including propagation equipment, valued at about £400 each, to three primary schools in the city.

Sandy Lane, Midland Road and Frizinghall schools were presented with the starter kits, which were provided in conjunction with Stewart Plastics, one of the garden centre’s suppliers.

Andrew Walmsley, who runs ACW along with Woodbank Nurseries in Harden Road, Bingley, said garden plants and food issues were now part of the primary school curriculum and they wanted to help encourage the next generation of gardeners. “If they look after all these things they are more likely to be sympathetic to the environment and they may try and grow something,” he said.
