A defiant grandma has vowed not to be intimidated in her fight to rid an estate of nuisance quad bikes.

Since appearing in the Telegraph & Argus on Wednesday, Holme Wood resident Elaine Booth has been threatened for bravely speaking out.

The 52-year-old told the T&A how a yob on a quad bike drove the powerful machine at her and her two-year-old grandson Kye as they got out of her car on Broadstone Way on Monday.

Mrs Booth was forced to throw Kye back into the car as she feared for their safety. The yob on the bike rode off laughing, said Mrs Booth.

On Wednesday lunchtime, following Mrs Booth’s appearance in the T&A, a silver Subaru pulled up at her house.

She said: “These people in the car swore at me, called me a grass and said ‘watch your house’.”

But rather than be intimidated, Mrs Booth said it has done quite the opposite.

“It has made me more determined to sort this out,” she said. “They will not beat me.

“It was bound to happen because I am spoiling their fun. But their fun is dangerous.

“If they want to kill themselves doing it, all well and good, but don’t drag everyone else into it.

“If it had not happened as it did on Monday, I would have put up with it again. But they have crossed the line this time and enough is enough.

“Using those tactics, they have gone beyond being a nuisance – they are dangerous. And once they get used to that, what will they do next?

“People are scared, they are worried about their property and everything. But the yobs got me so mad on Monday, and hearing my grandson crying made me say ‘they are not doing this to me’.”

Mrs Booth called on the Holme Wood community to back her campaign.

She said: “There are different communities on this estate and they might not be as brazen as me. But they can certainly pass information to me and I will pass it to the police.”

Coun Imran Hussain, deputy leader of Bradford Council and portfolio holder for Safer And Stronger Communities, was outraged to hear Mrs Booth was being threatened.

He said: “It is utterly outrageous and barely inconceivable that Mrs Booth should face threats for bringing attention to this issue.

“Dangerous driving, like is being seen in these cases, can cost lives.

“It cannot, and should not, be tolerated, and neither should threats to her welfare. I am confident the police will deal with this.”

A police spokesman said a 25-year-old man from Holme Wood had been arrested on suspicion of harassment in connection with the threats made against Mrs Booth. He added that the man was in custody and enquiries were ongoing.
