A series of burglaries and a chronic lack of custom has forced a Keighley town centre shopkeeper out of business.
Abul Barkat, 47, who has run Habeeb’s Newsagent in High Street for 13 years, said he did not want to leave, but had no choice.
Mr Barkat, who employs no other staff, said the shop could shut sometime this month, depending on when its remaining goods are sold. He will be looking for a tenant to occupy the building.
He said the shop was burgled four times in six years. “I decided over the Easter holidays that I’d have to close,” he said. “It’s very painful for me, but there’s nothing much else I can do.”
