Primary school pupils from a village between Keighley and Skipton delighted parents and staff with a performance in a county-wide contest.
The youngsters from Kildwick Primary made it through the earlier stages of the North Yorkshire Primary Schools’ Cross Country Championships to reach the final, which was held at Catterick racecourse.
They were competing against the best runners from schools across the county.
Kildwick PE teacher Clare Smurthwaite said two of the school’s pupils came first in their categories – Luke Butterfield, in year four, and Lucy Fryers, in year five.
She added: “Max Hibbert and Wilf Roberts ran brilliantly for the year three boys. It was their very first time in this competition.
“Millie Barker and Lilli Carr ran for the year four girls and came eighth and sixth respectively. Both of them also run with Keighley and Craven Athletics Club.
“It was an incredible achievement for such a small school and I was immensely proud. It's down to lots of PE in school and also a lot of sport outside of school.”
