Dozens of traffic light priority schemes have been completed in Bradford to give buses a clear path ahead of other traffic.
Transport authority Metro has been working with Bradford Council and various bus-operating companies to implement schemes at selected traffic signal locations across the city.
The system means when buses pass selected locations on the approach to traffic signals, the lights are prioritised in favour of the bus.
A new report drawn up by Metro officers revealed that 59 such schemes had been completed in Bradford, with another five in the pipeline.
In Leeds, 67 have been implemented, 23 in Calderdale, 21 in Kirklees and 22 in Wakefield, meaning a total of 182 across West Yorkshire.
The Metro report said: “Traffic light priority is a low-cost technological solution that helps reduce the effects of traffic congestion on buses. Monitoring of a number of completed sites shows bus journey time benefits are significant.”
