An event is being held tonight at Kala Sangam about The Bradford Earthquake: How Bradford West Was Won.

The event is being held by JUST West Yorkshire, the Racial Justice Network and the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust to critically assess Lewis Baston’s Report titled ‘The Bradford Earthquake’ on why Labour lost its safe seat to the Respect Party last year.

The event will address questions such as does the loss of Bradford West predict similar trends in the forthcoming local and the 2015 national elections?

Did the failure of Bradford’s politicians to articulate a viable economic vision for the district account for Labour’s loss and was the election of MP George Galloway (pictured left) an indictment of entrenched local power structures and the failure of democratic engagement and renewal?

The panellists are Lewis Baston, the author of the report, Alyas Karmani, the Bradford leader of the Respect Party and Ratna Lachman, from JUST West Yorkshire and is chaired by Professor Kevin Hylton. The event begins at 5.30pm.
