A lack of volunteers has given Otley’s Easter Chevin Cross a longer-than-usual lease of life.
The 36ft high, two tonne structure was meant to be taken down from its dramatic location at Surprise View last Saturday.
But organisers decided, after only about 20 people turned up on the morning to help, that they could not safely proceed.
They will make a second attempt to lower the cross, which usually stays up for four weeks each year during the Easter period, at 9am this Saturday.
John Burland, of Otley Methodist Church, said: “We would ask all who can to turn up at Surprise View to make a second attempt – at least 50 people are needed.”
