Robbers armed with a sledgehammer struck at a post office in Burley-in-Wharfedale yesterday.
Police described the incident as an attempted armed robbery and suggested nothing was stolen in the raid.
A police spokesman added that no-one was injured. A sledgehammer could be seen on the pavement (right) outside the Main Street post office.
Officers cordoned off Main Street following the raid, which happened at 5.10pm. One suspect was arrested at the scene.
West Yorkshire Police Helicopter’s Twitter account reported that the aircraft was searching for a vehicle used in the raid.
The police spokesman said that more than one person was involved in the robbery. A section of Grange Park was also cordoned off.
