Five years of success for a craft and scrap store will be marked with a day of celebrations tomorrow.
Scrap Magic, based in Eccleshill, is run through Bradford Community Environment Project and helps families get arty.
It started life in 2008 from an empty garage in Greengates and has now grown to running mobile shops once a month in children’s centres in Keighley, Cottingley, Manningham, Queensbury and Holme Wood.
Thanks to funding through Bradford Council, Scrap Magic sells craft materials at cost price so familes can afford to craft together.
Project workers collect unwanted, clean and interesting waste from local businesses such as fabric sample books, bobbins and reels, offcuts of paper, plastic, foam and fabric then visitors can fill a shopping basket for £1.50 and use the resources at home for making models, collages, playing outside or inside and dressing up.
To mark the anniversary, there will be an open day at Scrap Magic tomorrow from 10am to 4pm. Refreshments and cake will be available along with a raffle, information stand, and a scrap art competition. An exhibition will display examples of the fantastic things that can be done with scrap materials.
Scrap Magic’s main base where the celebrations will be is at Eccleshill Adventure Playground, off Harrogate Road, Greengates.
