A Keighley councillor has questioned why some traffic improvements take over a year to complete when they amount to little more than painting lines on a road.
Bradford Council’s Keighley Area Committee approved a number of Traffic Regulation Orders at its latest meeting, including parking restrictions.
But Doreen Lee (Keighley East) pointed out that of the 11 approved last year, only four had been completed. She said: “We are approving things for this year, but we haven’t finished last year’s yet. What is the hold up painting a few lines on a road? Give me a tin of paint and I could do it in half an hour.”
Traffic officer Keith Escritt said there were only two people working on all the schemes, and public objections could hold projects up for several months.
Among the approved measures were no waiting orders on Main Road, East Morton, Middleton Avenue, Ilkley, Mytholmes Lane, Haworth, as well as coach only parking at Railway Road, Ilkley and a removal of waiting restrictions on Royd Ings Avenue, Keighley.
