Wilsden Women’s Institute will celebrate its 50th anniversary next Wednesday with a special gathering.
Among the guests will be the Lady Mayoress of Bradford, Margaret Smith, and the chairman of the West Yorkshire Federation of WIs. There will also be representatives from other local WI groups alongside the Wilsden group’s 60-plus members.
Wilsden WI was formed in February 1963 because there were too many local women for Harden WI, which had formed only months before. The group now has monthly meetings at the primary school along with regular walking, theatre and culture clubs. Members take part in community projects in the village. Judy Caunt (pictured left), the current Wilsden WI president, said: “We’re a thriving group. We have a mix of speakers, practical things and discussions, and there’s always time for tea!” Judy said the the group has some younger members and would welcome more. Contact her on 01535 273709.
