Bradford’s Batman, and the man handed in to police by the caped crusader, have been arrested for an alleged burglary.
‘Batman’ – alias Stan Worby – and his friend Daniel Frayne are accused of entering a garage as trespassers and stealing power tools valued at £770.
The offence is alleged to have happened shortly after 4am on Sunday at premises in Milner Ing, Delph Hill, Bradford.
The pair made worldwide headlines after Worby, a 39-year-old Chinese takeaway delivery man, who was dressed as the superhero, handed in his friend at a police station.
Frayne later pleaded guilty at court to handling stolen goods and trying to use a stolen cheque. He is awaiting sentence.
Yesterday Frayne, 27, formerly of Queen Street, Buttershaw, Bradford, but now living at Sandringham Road, Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, pleaded not guilty to burglary.
He appeared from custody before Bradford and Keighley Magistrates’ Court, which heard that Worby had been bailed by police to face court on April 26.
When the charge was outlined, fair-haired Frayne, who has a thin beard and moustache and was wearing a blue quilted gillet, black and white tracksuit top and dark casual trousers, said: “I am not guilty.”
Prosecutor Jane Farrar said Frayne had moved to Grimsby and was on a warrant there because of an alleged breach of a court order. She asked for a remand in custody.
Mrs Farrar said Frayne would have to be tried with Worby. She said one police witness would be required and there were three other witness statements for the half-day trial.
Frayne’s solicitor, Rumana Burhan, said her client knew nothing about the stolen items. She said he lived in Cleethorpes but was from Bradford and came back to the area because he has a girlfriend there.
Magistrates’ chairman Mrs Gillian Palmer said the Bench was prepared to grant bail to Frayne on the burglary charge, with four conditions – to live and sleep at the address in Cleethorpes, a non-electronic curfew between 7pm and 7am, not to contact his co-accused and to report to police the day before the next hearing.
Frayne will next appear at court with Worby on April 26.
