A Hungarian man living in Skipton has been found guilty of careless driving after going too fast on a wet country road.
Tamas Klug, 29, hit another car after losing control of his Peugeot 206 on Low Lane, Embsay, near Skipton, in June, Skipton Magistrates heard. He had denied driving without due care.
Klug, of Rowland Street, suffered a broken arm and leg in the accident, while the driver of the other car, Kathryn Ayrton, suffered bruising and was still receiving physiotherapy.
Klug, who represented himself, insisted he was not a “crazy” driver. He said he had braked, but his car had gone out of control because he believed the road surface must have been slippery.
Magistrates told Klug he had been driving too fast for the conditions. Klug, who already had six points on his licence, was in danger of a driving ban if he received an additional six points. But after hearing he was being treated for a melanoma, magistrates gave him five points, allowing him to drive to his hospital appointments. He was also fined £85 and ordered to pay £215 costs.
