A blaze at a home in Wilsden was tackled by firecrews from Bingley and Shipley early on Sunday evening after neighbours spotted smoke billowing from an attached garage.

Firefighters wearing breathing gear arrived at Brigglands Court after the alarm was raised at 7.15pm.

Police asked residents to move cars in the modern estate as the flames spread from a garage into the roof of the detached property.

One neighbour said: “We thought it was someone burning rubbish until we heard lots of cracking of glass. It was in the roof, you could see all this black smoke coming under the eaves. It looked really serious, but thankfully no one was hurt.”
