Bradford Volunteer Centre is backing a scheme to encourage children to read.
The Telegraph & Argus reported on Friday how national reading charity Booktrust was appealing for volunteers to help support children moving from primary to secondary school that have not reached their expected reading level.
Dave Forrest, director of Bradford Volunteer Centre, said: “Transition from primary to secondary school is quite a challenge for young people and this innovative scheme will make it easier for them to settle into larger schools.
“If anyone can spare four days over the summer they will help local young people improve their reading skills and increase confidence in settling into a new school.”
An information session for anyone interested in volunteering will be held at the National Media Museum in Bradford on Thursday from 2pm to 5pm.
