A kind-hearted football club in Bradford has kitted out young footballers in Gambia – with the help of sports commentator John Helm.
Tyersal gave five full kits and a variety of shirts, shorts and training tops after Bradford City put them in contact with Hildred Helm, co-founder of charity Children of the Gambia.
The kits, which club secretary John O’Reilly said represented ten years of history at Tyersal, were collected by Hildred’s commentator husband John, a Baildon resident.
Mr O’Reilly said the club was delighted that Hildred had sent them pictures of how the kit was being used. He said: “They should do well – we had some amazing cup victories in the kits!
“It was amazing to see the kit out there and at least it is going to some use. From the look of the photographs they look very happy with it.
“And I’m sure our sponsors will be pleased to see what we have done with something they paid for.
“We had bags and bags of old kit that wouldn’t be used again and due to club development we needed more space. We didn’t want to just throw the kit away.”
