Civic dignitaries gathered in memorial gardens in Ilkley for the unveiling of steps and a memorial stone refurbished to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Although almost 60 years have passed since the Riverside Memorial Gardens were completed, the landmark never had an opening ceremony – until now.
Ilkley Parish Council has worked in partnership with Bradford Council to refurbish the steps and the memorial stone.
Members of the parish council, the Lord Mayor of Bradford, Keighley MP Kris Hopkins, and representatives of other organisations got together to formally open the Jubilee Memorial Steps. The ribbon was cut by Ilkley resident, Gene Bowen, a former land girl.
