Police have now determined that no crime was committed after investigating a suspected theft at the Asda supermarket in Towngate, Wyke.
It had been initially reported that some money left at a self-service check-out by a 71-year-old man on April 4 had been taken.
Officers made a public appeal for information and released a CCTV image of a man and a woman using a check-out at the supermarket, which was published in yesterday’s Telegraph & Argus.
But after further inquiries, a police spokesman said yesterday: “Police have spoken with two people in connection with the incident and the matter has now been resolved.
“The money which was left in the till has been returned to the 71-year-old man.”
