A survey by a Worth Valley-based cat welfare charity revealed 73 per cent of cat owners have made no provision for their pets if they become unable to care for them.
Yorkshire Cat Rescue, which operates from Cross Roads, surveyed 315 people across the UK.
The charity said the respondents’ answers also indicate that half of Britain’s cats are now microchipped. But nine per cent of respondents admitted they did not know if their own cat was fitted with one of the devices.
The survey results showed that cat charities remain a popular cause for people to donate time or money to.
Yorkshire Cat Rescue’s Sara Atkinson said the 73 per cent of owners with no emergency arrangements for their pets was worrying.
