A persistent drink-driver who sped from pursuing police was today jailed for six months.
Mark Spivey, 49, of Terrington Crest, Clayton, Bradford, was already serving a nine-week prison sentence for driving without insurance when he appeared at the city’s Crown Court today.
Spivey admitted dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol, driving while disqualified and without insurance on Clayton Road, Bradford, on March 10.
He sped off, jumping a red light, and then reversed into a police vehicle after he was ‘shopped’ by a member of the public for suspected drink-driving.
Spivey’s barrister, Ian Howard, said he suffered from multiple sclerosis and had mobility problems.
Judge Peter Benson branded Spivey’s driving record “dreadful”.
He refused to get out of his vehicle after police boxed him in and officers had to smash a window to get to him.
Spivey was banned from driving for three years and ordered to take an extended retest before he gets behind a wheel again.
