A 48-year-old man has been spared an immediate jail sentence for snatching a workman’s toolbox and biting his finger when he made a citizen’s arrest.
Andrew Murtagh was taking medication that altered his behaviour when he robbed Glen Lambert while he was carrying out repairs at property he owned at Oak Villas, Manningham.
Murtagh, of Kingfisher Grove, Lower Grange, Bradford, exchanged punches with Mr Lambert and both were injured, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
Murtagh pleaded guilty to robbery on December 21 last year.
He pushed Mr Lambert and made off with the box but Mr Lambert gave chase and detained him until the police arrived.
The court heard Murtagh had health problems and the medication he was taking at the time did not suit him.
He was sentenced to 18 months’ imprisonment, suspended for two years, with a community order.
