A man who punched his estranged wife’s new partner in the face after he called him a “dwarf” has escaped a prison sentence.
Haulier David Moore, 54, assaulted 6ft 3in tall Steven Glossop in The Last Orders pub in Keighley, causing a head wound needing 15 staples, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
Moore, of Dorothy Street, Ingrow, Keighley, pleaded guilty to wounding Mr Glossop on September 6 last year. Prosecutor Howard Shaw said Moore and his wife Amanda were going through a divorce after she began a relationship with Mr Glossop.
All three were drinking in The Last Orders when Moore began shouting abuse at the couple and sending unpleasant text messages, the court heard.
Mr Shaw said Mr Glossop called Moore a dwarf and the men scuffled outside. Moore came off worse followed the couple into the pub and punched Mr Glossop, who hit his head.
Moore’s barrister, Robin Frieze, said he was a hard- working man who ran a haulage business. He had no previous convictions for violence and the injury was caused recklessly, not deliberately. Moore was sentenced to four months imprisonment, suspended for two years, with a community order and £250 costs.
He was ordered not to contact Mr Glossop.
