A passenger in a VW transporter was sitting between the Bradford driver and another man on a toolbox which was not fastened down.
Also, he was not wearing a seatbelt, magistrates were told.
A police officer who stopped the VW on Skipton’s northern bypass believed it was a dangerous situation and there was risk of serious injury.
The driver, David Gott, 31, of Pentland Avenue, Clayton, Bradford, pleaded guilty at Skipton Magistrates’ Court to using a motor vehicle in a manner likely to cause danger.
He was banned from driving for 14 days under the totting up procedure, fined £175 and ordered to pay £85 court costs and a £20 victims surcharge.
