A dance with a difference is being organised by a group of therapy and nursing staff from Airedale Hospital.
The event is aimed at people with Parkinson’s disease as an opportunity for them to enjoy a night out with their friends and families.
It is the third event of its kind that has been organised by the hospital team, with support from branches of Parkinson’s UK at Skipton and Keighley. The concept was the brainchild of Debra Borsley, a speech and language therapist at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust. She also plays trombone in an 18-piece swing band, The Syd Alan Big Band, who will provide the music on the night.
She said: “The aim is to provide a really good evening for our patients with Parkinson's disease, some of whom have lost confidence going out socially. We hope to provide a relaxed but supportive and friendly atmosphere with help to hand if necessary.”
The dance is on Monday, April 29, from 7pm until 10pm at Holly Garth Social Club in Ilkley.
People can dance if they can manage a quick step, waltz or tango, or they can listen to the music. Supper is also provided.
