A plucky hospital worker has had her head shaved for charity, after a friend was diagnosed with a tumour.

Jayne Bold is hoping her stunt will raise more than £1,000 for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre at St James’s Hospital in Leeds.

The senior support worker at Airedale Hospital said she was inspired to brave the razor after her best friend was told she had a brain tumour.

She said: “I’d like to raise as much money as possible as it’s for such a good cause. Hopefully the money will go towards research that will help to find a cure for cancer which will help so many people in the future.”

Friend Iona Daniels, 34, who until recently worked as a community nurse, said: “I have known Jayne for most of my life, as an only child she is the sister I never had.

“Being diagnosed with Anaplastic Astrocytoma Brain Tumour has devastated my life and that of my husband and family. But Jayne, as ever, has come up with something practical to help others.

“I know that the research won’t be of benefit to me, but in the future, if it prevents someone else going through this, it will be worth it.”
