Calls have been made to get an “eyesore” house sorted out after it went up in flames yesterday.
There are fears that vandals will attack the derelict property in Quarry Street, Heaton, Bradford, if something is not done.
The upper floor of the house in Quarry Street was destroyed in the blaze at 6.15am which involved crews from Shipley and Fairweather Green battling to save it and damp down the roof, which was also destroyed.
It is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
Elizabeth Hellmich, the manager of the SAFE Project and the former chairman of Heaton Township Association, said that the house, believed to be privately owned, dragged the appearance of the street down.
“I think up until a short time ago people were living there but I understand in the past the cellar has been flooded, and the floorboards were not safe.
“It is an eyesore. We definitely need something doing with it or we will just get vandals in it.
“Once that house is done up and made habitable or demolished it will make a big difference to that road.”
Watch Commander Jonathan Earl, of Shipley Fire Station, said several fire appliances attended. “We had ladders and used breathing apparatus to tackle it,” he added.
