Parts of Ilkley Library will be out of bounds as repairs and redecoration takes place.
Bradford Council is advising visitors to stock up with more books than usual as the work –estimated to last eight weeks – takes place.
It will include repairs to plasterwork and windows at the Station Road building and new carpets.
The work is due to begin today. The library will remain open during the redecoration, but visitors can expect some disruption.
Bradford Council's executive member responsible for culture, Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, said: “I accept that, in the short-term, it is a real inconvenience for all Ilkley library users, but in the longer term it will result in a much smarter and welcoming library building."
External improvements to the library are planned for later in the year.
