Stay home to stay safe was the message from road safety groups as the weather turned white.
Snow was predicted to fall across the region for most of the weekend and into next week so the West Yorkshire Safer Roads Delivery Group is urging motorists to take extra care.
Bradford Council Casualty Reduction and Road Safety partnership manager Sue Snoddy said: “If the weather is severe, we would always encourage motorists not to travel.
“If your journey is necessary, make sure you and your vehicle are prepared and that you drive at a speed appropriate for the road and weather conditions.”
The advice is to slow down, keep windscreens clean and check tyres.
Some drivers have replaced their usual tyres with winter ones and Damian Kenefick, the owner of Shipley garage Click on Tyres, says he has seen a “surge” in sales this week.
