Thirty-six photographs from the 1950s and 1960s showing the construction of Bradford Cathedral’s East End extension go on show.
The Sanctuary, Lady Chapel and Chapel of the Holy Spirit were consecrated on October 31, 1963, by the-then Archbishop of York Dr John Coggan, a former Bishop of Bradford who later became Archbishop of Canterbury.
But as the array of pictures set out in the Cathedral’s Art Space show, work on site began 12 years before in 1951.
“How times change,” said Sandra Howard, PA to the acting Dean. “The pictures show no scaffolding, no hard hats or protective glasses.
“I don’t even think the architect Sir Edward Maufe turned up to see the work.”
The show runs from tomorrow until February 9.
