Police investigating a crash which left a 25-year-old mum dead and a man and their two young children seriously injured have today arrested two more people on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old man are being questioned by officers in connection with the smash, which involved a Seat Leon and a Vauxhall Astra, in Boothtown Road, Halifax, at 3.30pm on Sunday.

A Halifax woman who had been a front seat passenger in the Astra, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man, 26, a seven-year-old girl, and a boy, four, who were also in the vehicle, suffered what police described as serious injuries and were taken to hospital.

The children’s condition was today thought to be improving.

Police say the men arrested are believed to have been travelling in a blue X registered Mercedes 230 CLK which was seen driving with the Seat Leon immediately before the incident.

On Sunday, officers arrested four Bradford men, aged 19, 20, 21 and 27, who were travelling in the Seat towards Halifax. They are also being questioned on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Det Ch Insp Scott Wood, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “This was a young family going about their daily business but have suffered the ultimate tragedy.

“Two young children have been left without a mum and I would appeal to anyone who saw this incident or who knows the whereabouts of the Mercedes to get in contact.”
