Ilkley’s branch of Booths supermarket contributed to record figures for the company over the festive period. The family-owned regional food and drink retailer noted a total sales increase of 5.61 per cent.
Like-for-like sales rose 3.48 per cent compared with the same period in 2012.
Sales were robust throughout all 29 stores. Chief operating officer Chris Dee said; “Our pre-orders were up by 58 per cent with customers ordering in advance for the day.
“There was a trend for showstopper beef roasts this year as beef sales rose by 39 per cent and our speciality fish sales saw a rise of 14 per cent.”
Further indications of a trade upwards at Booths are supported by a 39 per cent increase in smoked salmon sales, a 23 per cent rise in sales of vintage champagne and a 27 per cent increase on magnums of fizz.
Booths boasts the largest range of vintage ales in any UK supermarket and sales of top-quality brews were up by an impressive 87 per cent.
Mr Dee added: “Booths customers rely on us to stock outstanding and good value food and drink. “We refused to enter discounting battles over the Christmas period.
“We prefer to focus on stocking the exceptional produce our customers come to expect from Booths.
“We’ve been mindful that budgets have been tight and kept prices affordable without compromising premium quality.”
