A club for trolleybus fanatics is planning a fond farewell to its much-missed president, Stanley King, a former Lord Mayor of Bradford.
Mr King died in October after a short illness, aged 80.
One of his great passions and areas of expertise was in trolleybuses. He was also a published expert on buses and trams in Bradford and Keighley.
He was the president of Bradford Trolleybus Association and the group has now decided to dedicate its meeting this Friday to him as a tribute.
Mr King served Bradford Council for almost 40 years as a Conservative representative for Heaton until his retirement in 2008. He served as Lord Mayor of Bradford in 2000.
At his funeral service, two former Bradford City Transport buses stood outside the church to represent his passion for vintage transport.
The Bradford trolleybus system served Bradford from 1911 to 1972, making it the longest service of its kind in the UK.
Many of the city’s former trolleybuses are now preserved in various places in the country.
Bradford Trolleybus Association’s Stanley King Appreciation Night takes place at the Midland Hotel. The meeting starts at 7.30pm on the hotel’s third floor. For more information, phone 07866 957202.
