Surprised Shipley bank manager Diane Shorter found herself the centre of attention when she went into labour while presenting a cheque for £50,000 to a children’s hospice just before Christmas.
Diane, who works for HSBC in Shipley, was one of the bank’s employees handing over the cash to the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield.
But shortly after handing over the cheque, Diane, 33 weeks pregnant, went into labour while still at the hospice.
Michelle Surrell, hospice development director, said the cheque presentation was exciting enough on its own.
After being cared for by staff from the hospice, Diane was rushed to Calderdale Royal Hospital where she gave birth to a baby boy, Charlie, weighing in at 4lb 5oz, delivered seven weeks early and doing very well.
