Buttershaw St Paul’s Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society has taken inspiration from the B-movies of the 1950s for its latest production, Return To The Forbidden Planet, which runs at St George’s Hall in Bradford this month.
The lively musical, featuring a rock ’n’ roll score from the 1950s and 1960s, focuses on eccentric Doctor Prospero who invents an elusive ‘X factor’ formula giving him the power to turn his vivid imagination into reality.
The high-energy show is loosely based on The Tempest and is often referred to as “Shakespeare’s forgotten rock ’n’ roll masterpiece”. It will take audiences into hyperspace with classic Fifties and Sixties hits including Great Balls Of Fire, Wipe Out and Teenager In Love.
The show runs from January 22 to 26 at 7.15pm, with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm. For tickets, ring (01274) 432000.
