"We loved its uniqueness,” say the owners of the house which they first saw three years ago,” say the owners of this four-bedroomed dormer bungalow.
“There isn’t another house like it in Wilsden. It’s just on the edge of the village and we had passed it many times and admired it.
“It’s location is great – a beautiful rural setting yet minutes away from the bustle of Wilsden, so you get the best of both worlds. Then, when we walked in and saw the huge rooms and the potential it gave us to make our own mark on it, we knew it was for us.”
Today, the house is beautifully presented thanks to the meticulous work carried out by the owners, with four bedrooms over two floors, two reception rooms, bathroom, wet room and a modern kitchen.
Originally a galley-style kitchen, it has been given a thorough makeover. “It gives us a large breakfast bar and allows the room to be a real kitchen/diner.”
It’s a family-oriented space with quality base and wall units, built-in fridge and freezer, integrated dishwasher and washing machine, with a tiled floor and double doors out to the rear garden.
“This has to be our favourite room. We created it, and as a family we spend a lot of time together here.
Whey they moved in, the lounge ran right across the front of the house. “We decided to put in an internal wall to separate the lounge into two living areas, so that we now have a large lounge and an extra reception room that we use for formal dining.
“The lounge overlooks the village and its surrounding countryside and, as it is south-facing, it gets the sun most of the day. It’s probably one of the most relaxing and enjoyable rooms you could chill out in.”
Both the lounge and the dining room have large bay windows, offering excellent views, while the lounge also has an attractive fire surround with fitted gas fire, double doors leading to the front garden and an archway into the dining room.
Also on the ground floor is an inner hallway, two bedrooms and a fully-tiled wet room. “One of these bedrooms is used as a study and its a great room for working from home.”
Upstairs are two further bedrooms. The master bedroom have a large dormer window to the rear and a gable window, together with fitted wardrobes with mirror doors, while the remaining bedroom has a dormer window to the rear.
“The bathroom was large, but lacked a shower, so we had a large walk-in shower installed.”
Outside the overgrown brambles in the back garden have been done away with, replaced with a lawned area and a patio with seating, while the front area of the terraced garden has been raised to make more car parking spaces. “We currently use is as hardstanding for our caravan, which is great, as it is secure, yet not to close to the house to be an eyesore.
“We use the garden all the time, especially in summer, when we can sit in the sun and take in the countryside, exchanging pleasantries with the horse riders that pass by.
“The lawned area at the front makes a great play area for the kids to kick a ball around, while the patio at the side is great for family living.”
The house will appeal to people who love the countryside but do not want to be too far from a village. “It’s great for families and also older couples that want a relaxing home with plenty of charm.
“We love the space in the house and garden and the freedom it gives the family. Its uniqueness has been a real attraction for us, and the friendliness of the people living in the area will be missed.”
