A Bingley school will be able to take on almost 100 extra pupils, and provide better facilities for its existing ones, after an ambitious expansion plan was approved.

Because of overcrowding, more than 150 pupils at Trinity All Saints Primary School on Church Lane are taught in four temporary classrooms on the school’s playground. There is no school car park, meaning staff and parents have to park in neighbouring residential streets.

Bradford Council predicts that because of Bingley’s rising population the school will have to find even more space, and take on an extra 90 pupils over the next three years.

Last month the school submitted a planning application that would see a five stage expansion, leading to it doubling in size. The expansion includes nine new 30 pupil classrooms, a new school hall, staff car park, kitchen, playground and “wild garden” build next to the existing building.

Parts of the school are Grade II listed, meaning rules governing what changes can be made are more strict. But just days before Christmas the school was granted planning permission to go ahead with the project.

It came after the Council finished a consultation on ways to increase capacity of other primary schools in the Aire Valley.
