One of the men accused of the murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky told police he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, the court heard today.
Half-an-hour after he was arrested at a flat in Forest Gate, London, on February 1 this year, Raza Ul-Haq Aslam told a West Yorkshire Police officer: "It was nothing to do with me."
He told Detective Sergeant John McGuire, of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team in Bradford, that Faisal Razzaq had told him on the day of the alleged robbery and shooting they had to show Muzzaker Shah a place in Bradford.
Aslam said he was just a passenger in the Toyota Corolla and did not know where they were going.
When the Toyota Rav 4 turned off he asked Razzaq where they were going and was told not to worry. He said he and Razzaq went for something to eat and when they got back in the car there were police everywhere.
DS McGuire said Aslam told him: "Faisal looked a bit worried. I knew something wasn't right."
Aslam said he found out what had happened and had to live with his conscience. He said he rang Crimestoppers and the incident room in Bradford. He added: "It wasn't right, what happened. I didn't have a clue."
During two days of police interviews in West Yorkshire Aslam said that on the morning of November 18 Yusuf Jamma had started drinking vodka when he woke up. And he said he thought he had seen the Jamma brothers, Shah and Faisal Razzaq smoking marijuana that morning.
Aslam told police that when the men got back to the house in Harehills Lane, Leeds, from Bradford Shah looked white and shaken up and was screaming, shouting and swearing.
He said he had seen Shah give money to the Jamma brothers but he had kept more money than he had given out.
Aslam told police that he feared he would be killed for talking to them.
"They said to me if I ever talked they will kill me."
Yusuf Abdillh Jamma, 20, of Small Heath, Birmingham, Raza Ul-Haq Aslam, 25, of Kentish Town, London, and brothers Faisal Razzaq, 25, and Hassan Razzaq, 26, both of Forest Gate, London, plead not guilty to PC Sharon Beshenivsky's murder.
Muzzaker Imtiaz Shah, 25, of London, admits murder and robbery but denies the attempted murder of PC Teresa Milburn. He has also pleaded guilty to two charges of possessing a prohibited weapon and two charges of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Aslam and the Razzaq brothers deny robbery but Jamma has admitted that charge. Aslam, the Razzaq brothers and Jamma also plead not guilty to firearms offences.
The trial continues on Monday.
