Andrew Hill (former Parkland Middle School pupil)
John Flockton was a brilliant teacher I knew as a pupil at Parkland Middle school between 1973 and 1977. He organised an inter school quiz in 1975 of which I was one of the team members. We won and myself and Duncan Coulter had a trip to Holland with John. He was really easy to get on with and not the typical teacher at all. He would make you believe any aspiration was possible and I have carried that throughout my life and I have done well especially academically, because of these times. So sad to hear of John's passing and wish his family my sincere condolences

John Flockton was a hugely talented teacher who commanded respect from his pupils while remaining infinitely likeable. He was one of two teachers at Parkland Middle School who remain unforgettable for the right reasons.

I remember him in his beekeeper's outfit, courageously tending his hive. I remember him reading us poetry, instilling the love of literature and life into his pupils year in and year out.

Goodnight, Mr Flockton. You will always be remembered as one of the best teachers and role models in the country. Rest in well-deserved peace.
