Stage
AROUND 200 youngsters from Idle theatre school Stage 84 will take part in a Christmas Spectacular at the Alhambra this weekend. The show, on Sunday at 6.15pm, features performing arts students performing big musical theatre numbers from favourite shows. Choir sections include a tribute medley to Andrew Lloyd Webber in his 70th birthday year.
Youngsters from Stage 84's Bradford contemporary dance and street and freestyle dance classes will perform, together with dance pieces from the Skipton dance fusion classes. "Stage 84 Christmas concerts were originally staged in Idle's Old Bell Chapel, where our classes and rehearsals are held. We up-scaled the Christmas show a few years ago and we're incredibly excited to be returning to the Alhambra stage this year," says managing director Craig Winward. "Our students have worked exceptionally hard and we're proud to offer them the opportunity of performing in one of the North's leading theatres."
Next year Stage 84, founded by principal Valerie Jackson MBE, celebrates its 35th anniversary. The school runs classes at its main studio in Idle, and in Skipton and Burley-in-Wharfedale. Shows performed this year included Hairspray, Sister Act, which transferred to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and Mary Poppins Jr.
* Tickets for Christmas Spectacular are on (01274) 432000.
