• Tomorrow marks the start of Keighley Gala with the crowning of this year's Gala Queen, Sophie Verity, in Town Hall Square at noon, followed by the traditional procession through the town, which kicks off at 1pm from Malsis Road and arrives at Victoria Park at approximately 2.30pm. This year's procession features floats, walking groups, bands, dance troups and much more. There's more entertainment at Victoria Park, too, with stalls, music and, of course, the fun fair. There's no charge to enter the field. On Sunday there's a music event, also at Victoria Park, featuring a number of local bands. There will also be trade stalls and a fun fair. Don't forget that the gala also marks the start of Keighley Festival fortnight, which sees a whole host of events across Keighley. A leaflet detailing all the events is available from local businesses, or you can visit the festival website at www.keighleyfestival.info.
  • Hebden Bridge Arts Festival starts tomorrow, a splendid, even eccentric, mix of music, comedy, drama, talks and exhibitions, open studios and gardens. Honor Blackman, Nicholas Parsons and Ian MacMillan are among the more well-known national personalities who will be in attendance. There will be theatrical productions, an evening for horror lovers and plenty for the children, including street entertainment, a puppet play and art workshops. You've plenty of time to pick and choose what you want to see as the Festival runs until July 15. Programmes are available from tourist information and libraries, or you can download a pdf from www.hebdenbridge.
